How To Preserve Your Wedding Gown
Marriage, Wedding Gowns
I finally got back my wedding and evening gowns from the designer who helped me dry-clean them.
Last weekend, I spent quite some time airing the gowns before keeping them. It was with a twinge of sadness when I folded them away in their garment bags for I knew I would probably never wear the wedding gown again, gorgeous as it was. I’m not sure when I can wear my favourite evening gown again either for it is definitely too dressy to be worn to anyone else’s wedding dinner!
My designer offered to help me alter the gowns so they could be more wearable. However, right now, I can’t bring myself to cut it up and would rather just keep it for now with some tips on preserving your wedding gown I just learnt.
How To Preserve Your Wedding Gown
- Professionally clean your gown as soon as you can after your wedding. Quickly cleaning it will helpĀ remove stains which might set in after too long.
- Remove the gown from the dry cleaner’s plastic. Storing fabric in plastic will cause it to yellow.
- Stuff the bodice with acid-free paper to help it keep its shape.
- Most experts do not recommend hanging your wedding gown by its straps for a long period of time. Instead, fold your gown in paper before placing it in an acid-free box.
- Use only acid-free paper as normal paper acids will turn your gown yellow over time.
- Air your gown at least once a year to let it breathe and check for any wear and tears.
Anyone know where can I find acid-free boxes in KL?
