No One Said It Was This Hard
Marriage
Marriage.
No one ever tells you it will be this hard or that so many adjustments will be required.
Fairy tales we read always end with the prince getting the princess and the famous phrase “And They Lived Happily Ever After”. In real life, unfortunately, it does not end there. The prince gets the princess and that’s where reality kicks in. How? Read on!
Marriage is not just wedding gowns, flowers and pretty photos. It is about compromise, living together, sacrifices and obligations. It is about other family members (the in-laws) and different family traditions and values. It is complex and hard.
Perhaps women today find it a lot harder than their counterparts in the past. Previously, women had no choice but to endure simply because they were financially and emotionally dependent on their husbands. Today, we’re educated, financially independent and empowered of our own lives. We pump our own petrol, manage our own finances and make our own decisions and it is hard to make compromise when you are both standing at the opposite sides of the fence and don’t agree on what each other thinks.
What do you think?
If you sometimes think your marriage is going nowhere or you might be better off taking a break, here’s valuable piece of advice someone shared, especially for those dark days when you can’t seem to see any light at the end of the tunnel.
“Never forget what made you choose each other out of the thousands and millions of people out there in the world.”
