Pre-Wedding Photoshoot
Wedding PhotographersI had my pre-wedding photoshoot last Sunday and boy, what an experience it was!
Many many thanks to dearest ParisB who was the best helped, dress fluffer and behind-the-scenes wedding photographer! And our heartfelt thanks to John and his crew. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!
We had originally scheduled the shoot for some time in May but it had to be moved many times to accommodate our and the photographer’s schedule. Just when we got the date fixed, luck would have it that I fell terribly ill just the week before! I have never been so good in taking my meds just to ensure that I’ll be well in time for the shoot! Thanks too to Tine for your great tips on what to bring!
I wouldn’t have known otherwise!
I opted very early on not to go with a bridal studio package as I didn’t want the pain of having to shell out more money for additional photographs especially if I look halfway decent in them! So we opted for a professional photojournalist, John Ishii, and only outdoor shots. We didn’t really have a set itinerary but rather went with the photographer’s suggestions. Personally, I found it so important to bond well with your photographer and have complete trust in his abilities to bring out the best in you. After all, he’s the one seeing you behind the lenses
Sunday dawned bright and early. I started off with my make up and I was glad that the make up artist I got from Armadale was good and interactive in asking me what I wanted. She did a nice natural look and I really liked the silk flowers she put in my hair. I still think that the make up and hair made me look a bit “Lian” and old but like my dear family so diplomatically put it - “You look Lian anyway!” :p J also had his first experience with foundation and I think he rather enjoyed it! Heh…It was then on with the veil and we were set to go!
The weather, unfortunately, wasn’t really on our side as the sky was slightly overcast all morning and just as we set off for our first venue, it started to rain
John suggested swapping the itinerary around and starting off instead with the indoor shots so off we went towards the KTM for some brilliant indoor shots.
It was initially quite scary when John started explaining how he wanted to shot done as neither of us have had any experience with posing or modelling! However, his friendliness and clear instructions won over and we were soon comfortable enough to give him the poses what he was looking for, hopefully! I have to say that his equipment was really sophisticated with the biggest telescopic lenses I have ever seen!
We moved on to the city for some urban shots and this was where it got really funny cos we were shooting by the side of the road with cars, buses and people passing by! Several tourists stopped and stared and an Indian tourist stopped to ask “Photoshooting, hei?!”. Tee hee…Some of them were really nice though and congratulated us as they walked past while others thought we were shooting a movie! Some even stopped to take photos of us and it was difficult to keep a straight face and pretend that they didn’t exist!
From there, we finished up in an abandoned building in the afternoon. I was really looking forward to taking in this building as I could already envision some really good shots with the contrast of the old mouldy bricks against our formal attire. We stopped after a while for me to change into something more casual and this was when the skies decided to open up with the rain it had been holding back all day
It started to drizzle and we only managed to catch a few last shots before John and his crew had to pack their expensive equipment away and call it a day.
Ah…but it wasn’t quite a day yet for us as we had our own wedding photographer, ParisB, who was really kind enough to continue taking shots for us in the light drizzle!
Whoppee! With her, we opted for more casual, fun and “bridal studio poses” pictures which hopefully turned out well! Can’t waste all that make up and hairdo! We finally finished up around 6pm when we were both too tired to even smile anymore. My feet were killing me by then and I can’t imagine how people do a full day or even two days of shooting sometimes!
It was truly a privilege to work with such a talented photographer, John, and we really enjoyed ourselves that day. He was absolutely brilliant in capturing mysterious, evocative and passionate shots that were so special and different. He truly captured the essence of the shoot right through his lenses. What a wonderful guy. Thanks again, John!
Anyway, whilst waiting for the shots from John, here’s just a little teaser from my family wedding photographer

That’s a lovely photo, and am glad you endured and enjoyed the photoshoot. Do send me some photos to see if it’s okay with you
PE says: Will do Tine once I have them
Does John Ishii have a website? I’d love to see some of his work.
PE says: Thanks for dropping by
I’m not sure if he does. He’s not a wedding photographer like some of the typical wedding photographers out there.
Hehe…I didn’t realise you’d gotten John Ishii until PB told me - do send him my regards..
John doesn’t have a personal website per se, but you can see some of his other work here - http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/portfolio/john_w.ishii/m1.htm (mostly scenery photos)
PE says: I didn’t know you knew John Ishii! How did you know him?! He’s a fantastic guy!

Always loved John’s work … didn’t you find that staircase old and rickety? Its 100 years old you know ….. Wonder what are your thoughts on the Hotel that you took the photos in …
Hi Lloyd,
I loved the Heritage Hotel. Didn’t think the staircase was old and rickety at all. I found that it had a lot of character
