Wedding Gown Workshop
Wedding GownsSo what was I doing at the Wedding Hub, the first one stop wedding centre in KL last weekend? I was attending a wedding gown workshop, organised by the good people at the Wedding Hub and Weddings Malaysia!
In fact, I was so excited about going for this workshop that I actually got the dates wrong and turned up a day earlier! :p Luckily J was kind enough not to scold me. When I finally made it there on the correct day with sis and J in tow, we were quite surprised to see that most of the turnout were girls with a few awkward looking guys! Funny, I had expected mainly couples there!
They kicked off the workshop with a small wedding gown fashion show, sponsored by wedding gown specialists Pretty in White and That Special Occasion:
This was a simple wedding gown with a modified mermaid skirt. Made of satin, the designer recommended sewing on little crystals on the skirt and bodice for added glamour. However, if you are looking for a budget wedding gown, they recommended just sewing crystals on the bodice only for less. It’s something for a simple bride on a budget.
This was a rather contemporary wedding gown that came with *gasp* pockets! I found the pocket element made the bride look fat and accentuated the hips which is definitely a big no-no! I’m not sure if this design would suit any bride!
Another simple wedding gown with a twist - a chiffon panel down the front. Again, I didn’t find it that flattering as that chiffon piece tended to bulge out, giving an unflattering form. This gown would probably suit brides who are looking for a conventional wedding gown with a difference.
The only wedding gown I liked - A wedding gown with a sash! It was an off shoulder dress with a peach coloured sash tied into a pretty bow at the back. It was pretty but I found that the colour of the sash wasn’t striking enough against the ivory of the gown. Nonetheless, it was a very pretty gown and perfect for fairy tale brides!
This was a really simple wedding gown in chiffon. It draped down in a simple A-line and had beading only around the bodice area. According to the designers, this will be a gown perfect for an outdoor wedding or a garden wedding as it wasn’t too wide or heavy. It would probably be perfect for brides on a budget as well as simple gowns with minimal beading usually cost less.
This stylish wedding gown was modelled after the mermaid design but with a trumpet skirt. The skirt flared out to gather back at the hems to form a bubble skirt. It was interesting and something for contemporary and stylish brides who don’t mind the slight inconvenience of walking with small steps!
This very pretty wedding gown came with off shoulder lace sleeves and a sweet little ribbon at the bodice. The back was really unique as it featured a large flower with a lace panel trailing down the lower half of the back. It was a fairy tale wedding gown and perfect for the romantic bride!
It was a rather interesting workshop and definitely useful as I came away from it with a better idea of designs, styles and materials. However, I was a little disappointed to find that the wedding gowns seemed a bit simple and ordinary. They looked just like almost any gown I’ve seen brides here wearing at their weddings. It seems to lack the “oomph” factor unlike some of the gowns I’ve seen online. Sigh, so my search for the perfect wedding gown goes on…

Let me tell you something PE.. if you going to get a gown that requires you to walk with small dainty steps, make sure you brief J about it and make sure he lets you dictate the pace! Top Monkey was a bit blur about this bit so I had to clamp down on his arm frequently to stop him from making his usual giant steps.
Keep searching… most gowns for hire seem to be quite simple. It’s ok if you like simple (like me) but if you want something with more oomph, you could consider making your own? My friend did.
PE says: Hi Cheesy Poo, thanks for the tips
Will let you know how the gown is coming on
